Greater Houston Youth Orchestra

The Greater Houston Youth Orchestra (GHYO) was founded in 1993 by Mr. Lawrence Wheeler.  It is a non-profit organization dedicating itself for a group of young, talented musical artists, and their passionate musical educators.

The Orchestra's mission is to provide the highest level of professional music education for talented young musicians, and to create and maintain a challenging and supportive learning environment where students develop respect for each other and their mutual musical goals. The priorities shall always be Youth and Music.

The Orchestra utilizes a chair rotation seating plan.  In this fashion students are given the opportunity to play various sections and parts within the orchestra. GHYO believes that students should be given many opportunities and experiences within the orchestra setting.
