Lisa Black is serving her second year as String Ensemble conductor. She began her teaching career in the Houston area, where she has successfully built programs in the Pasadena, Deer Park, and Clear Creek school districts. Under her direction, her orchestra students have won numerous awards, which include Best in Class and Superior ratings at South Coast Music Festivals, American Classics, and Soundwaves Competitions at Schlitterbahn. Presently, she is the head orchestra director as Space Center Intermediate School where she built the program to include 200 students, winning consecutive UIL Sweepstakes. She has earned membership in the Texas Music Adjudication Association and is listed in Who's Who Among America's Teachers. Ms. Black received her Bachelor of Music Education from the Crane School of Music, State University of New York at Potsdam, where she studied violin with John Lindsey and Ruth Iogah. She was awarded a full teaching assistantship at Kent State University, where she earned a Master's degree in Music Education with a concentration in string pedagogy and continued her violin studies with Stphanie Sant' Ambrogio. As a violinist, Ms. Black has performed with the Akron Symphony, Symphony of Southeast Texas, Rapides Symphony, Lake Charles Symphony, Pasadena Philharmonic, and the Clear Lake Symphony, as well as in her church orchestra. Lisa's family includes Kevin Black, a high school orchestra director in CCISD, daughter Sophia and son Sean William. |
