Philharmonic Conductor

Craig Hauschildt is serving his first year as conductor of the GHYO Philharmonic. He is currently working on his Doctorate in Percussion Performance at Rice University under the tutelage of Richard Brown.

Before moving to Houston in 2001, Mr. Hauschildt attended Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin where he studied music education, percussion, conducting and mathematics. His primary teachers included Dane Richeson, Bridget-Michaele Reischl and Nick Keelan.

After completing his Master’s Degree from Rice University in 2003, he spent two years teaching young percussionists in Katy, freelancing, and working at Da Camera of Houston. He has performed locally with the Houston Grand Opera and Houston Ballet Orchestras and in the summers he has performed at the Grand Teton, Spoleto and Aspen Music Festivals.

In addition to studying western music, he enjoys studying Afro-Cuban music with Michael Spiro in San Francisco, California.
